To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the, we are hosting an online forum event each month to showcase how our academic experts can support your business.
Innovation drives the growth of organisations, whether they are industrial enterprises, service providers, social enterprises, charities or public sector organisations. In our, we will explore how companies utilise expert knowledge from the university to advance business performance and de-risk investment for research and development.

Deploying Responsible AI in Business
This instalment of the Innovate & Elevate forum will delve into the principles of Responsible AI (RAI), exploring the latest developments in AI safety, data privacy, ethics, fairness, explainability, accountability, and the associated risks.
The talk will also discuss best business practices for ensuring Responsible AI across various sectors, highlighting how organisations can adopt these principles to build trust and mitigate potential harms.
Additionally, the presenters will showcase cutting-edge RAI research being conducted at the University of Plymouth, featuring exciting PhD projects that are shaping the future of ethical AI.

Presenters
Mark Xu is a professor in Information Management and Director of the Centre for Operational Research and Logistics. His specialism is in digital technologies and governance, Responsible AI development and deployment, and strategic intelligence.
Mark led several research and knowledge transfer projects in Marine, Telecom, Healthcare, Global Supply Chain industries, and published widely in national and international journals.
He is currently a guest editor of a reputable international journal Technological Forecasting and Social Change on responsible AI.
Dr Muhammad Shakir is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Operations & Systems Management with ten years of teaching/research experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Pakistan, China, and England. With enriched and diversified teaching experience over the past few years, my researching abilities and knowledge are enhanced.
Muhammad received his doctoral degree from the School of Business Administration (EQUIS and AMBA accredited), Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), Chengdu, China with a major in Digital Business (social commerce and channel integration) and a Master degree from the University of Bolton, England with Major in Business Information Systems.
While studying at both SWUFE and Bolton University, Muhammad encapsulated the study patterns of interdisciplinary research and kept his researching inclination towards the role of the digital transformation strategy, information systems for operational improvements, and digital businesses such as social media, social commerce, e-commerce, online consumer behavior, business analytics, organisational information technology (IT) capabilities and many more.
He has published in well-reputed peer-reviewed journals, such as Government Information Quarterly, Journal of Business Research, Psychology & Marketing, Electronic Markets, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Technological Forecasting and Social Change among others.
Muhammad’s research interests include the study patterns of interdisciplinary research and the role of information systems for operational improvements and digital businesses such as AI, AR, social media, social commerce, Omni-channel, e-commerce, online consumer behavior, business analytics, organisational information technology (IT) capabilities, and business model innovation, among others.
