Biography

Rob joined the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science at the ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú in October 2018. He is an experienced pracitioner in the area of sports science and stength & conditioning, with over a decade of applied experience. Rob is an accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA). Rob has worked with athletes competing at national and international level, across team-based and individual sports. Prior to leading the S&C programme for the university sport scholars, he worked in professional football across Premier League and EFL academies, managing athletic development programmes. He has a strong interest in coach, athlete relationships and the development of early-career practitioners.

Rob completed my post-graduate MSc in Strength and Conditioning in 2014 from Middlesex University.

Research interests

Rob is currently undertaking research as part of a PhD, using novel qualitative approaches to support the gender-diversity of applied S&C practitioners. Rob supervises both UG and PGT research projects within the discipline of strength and conditioning including: 

  • Velocity-based training
  • Cueing for olympic weighlifting
  • Electromyography across gym-based movements
  • Strength, power and speed relationships

Teaching responsibilities

Rob is the course leader for MSc Strength, Conditioning and Rehabiliation. He also teaches across BSc Sport and Exercise Science, and BSc Sport, Health and Exercise Science (Dual Award) within the School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences.
